A few years ago I was shooting a wedding at Letsedi Cultural Village for a couple who lived in Zambia. While waiting for the bride, this chicken came racing around on of the huts. Instinctively I raised my camera and shot off a series of frames. Running right under my legs it was gone in a flash of feathers and squaks, then followed a rooster, which explained it all.
At the same time I also shot the feet of one of the little flower girls with her colourful dress, the colours and contrast caught my eye.. The wedding was different in that all the guests came dressed in colourful traditional outfits. I still remember climbing a huge acacia to get a group shot which wasn't a problem at the time, it was just the getting down part which took a while.
It was a few months after this wedding that I had to submit an advertisement for a bridal magazine and I wanted to create a eye catching image that would go with the message." Simple, Natural, Beautiful.." Remebering the chicken, I put together a series of images and eventually settled on the chicken and the feet. The chicken reflects the simplicity of my images, the little flower girls feet walking conveys the naturalness of my style and the 3rd image is the " beautiful" which is your wedding day.
